Why I Love Walking in the Rain

I had a boyfriend once who said he wanted to walk more, it was one of the things that attracted him to me apparently as I love walking; coastal walks; short walks; long walks; mountain walks, walks that go through housing estates so you can peer at people’s gardens — any walks basically.

One weekend we planned a walk in a local country park we had never been to. So we are getting ready, water, snacks…tick..backpacks sorted, shoes on, jackets on…ready to go. We open the front door….he takes one look at the minuscule amount of rain falling….I mean I wouldn’t even call it a drizzle, and he wrinkles his nose up and said “naaaaa it’s raining!!” Wtf like…seriously, I mean, this is Wales..land of rain….and it was not at any level that you could even legitimately class it as rain in my book. It was what I call “mizzle” — like not quite mist but not what you’d call a drizzle.

But he wasn’t having any of it, he looked at me as though it was acid and going out in it would make him melt.

So I gave in..and did some yoga instead. And for me, that was probably the moment that sadly, I knew we were never going to be right for each other.

I love walking in the rain, don’t get me wrong, I still prefer a beautiful sunny day, who doesn’t? But the fact it’s raining doesn’t usually put me off going out for a walk. I do totally…
